If you are not sure what the Air National Guard even is, you are in good company. It is the least-explained branch of the U.S. military and most people have never had it described to them properly.
The Air Force has three parts. Active duty is full-time. The Air Force Reserve is part-time and federal. The Air National Guard is part-time and belongs to both your state and the nation.
That is it. Same uniform, same rank structure, same training, same aircraft. The difference is how much of your life it takes up and who can call on you.
Drill weekend is typically Saturday and Sunday, once a month, at your unit. Then there is annual training, usually about two weeks a year, which might be at your home station or somewhere else entirely.
Roughly 39 days a year. That is the baseline commitment. Some career fields and some periods will ask for more, and a deployment is a different scale of commitment entirely. But the ordinary rhythm of Guard life is: you have a civilian life, and one weekend a month you put on a uniform.

The 146th Airlift Wing flies C-130Js equipped with the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System, which is the aircraft you have probably seen dropping retardant over California hillsides on the news.

The President can federalize Guard units for national defense. Guard airmen deploy alongside active duty, fly the same missions, and are held to identical standards.
Everything the Air Force does. Fly and maintain aircraft, run security, do medical work, operate cyber and intelligence systems, build and maintain facilities, handle logistics, fight fires, run communications.
The person doing avionics on a C-130 on Saturday might be an electrician, a student, or a pharmacy tech on Monday. That is completely normal here.
USERRA is federal law. Your employer cannot fire you for serving, has to give you time off for drill and deployment, and has to take you back when you return. This is not a courtesy, it is a legal requirement.
